The College of the Holy Spirit

On Saturday 14 January, a public meeting was held at the Cathedral of the Isles regarding the future of the College of the Holy Spirit.

The Rt Revd Dr Keith Riglin, Bishop of Argyll and The Isles, made a statement at the meeting. He confirmed that despite the efforts of all concerned, the trading position of the College had become untenable with increasing financial loses.

However, he reaffirmed his commitment to the Cathedral as a place of public worship. The Cathedral remains open and is not affected by the closure of the College.

In the statement he suggested that options are now being explored for the future of the College, “with nothing already decided”. However, we understand that the Scottish Episcopal Church are currently in negotiations regarding a long term commercial let of the College buildings. They will advise the community of any developments in that regard or any other news.

NB We have subsequently been informed that the Scottish Episcopal Church have been approached by the contractors for the Millport Coastal Flood Protection scheme and negotiations are taking place with the firm to rent the College accommodation for a minimum of 1 year, ensuring a presence in the buildings and an income to set against College costs.
